For a new Boy Scout, there are a few essential items they will need to purchase from the official Boy Scout Store (or an authorized retailer). Here's a list of typical items:
The Scout Handbook is one of the most important items a new Scout needs. It contains all the information they need to advance in ranks, earn merit badges, and understand the Scouting program.
Scout Shirt: The Class A uniform shirt is a button-down khaki shirt with proper patches and insignias.
Scout Pants/Shorts: Official BSA green pants or shorts.
Scout Belt: A belt that goes with the official uniform.
Scout Socks: Socks that complement the official uniform.
Neckerchief & Slide: Troop 799 provides the ICBC Neckerchief. Slider needs to be bought from the store
Shoulder Loops: These small colored loops are worn on the shoulder epaulets and designate the Scout’s level. Boy Scouts typically wear forest green loops.
Scout T-shirt: Class B is a more casual uniform, that can be purchased from Troop 799.
As the Scout earns merit badges, they will need a merit badge sash to display their achievements.
Council Shoulder Patch: Displays the local council name and is worn on the left shoulder.
Troop Numbers Patch: ICBC Troop Provides the Troop Number Patch.
Some troops wear official BSA hats as part of the uniform, though this is optional.
To protect the Scout Handbook, many Scouts purchase an optional Scout book cover. It is highly recommended to protect the Handbook.
